A jar of flour and water that somehow turned into a full-time personality.
A few years ago, I decided to try making sourdough. Like most people, I thought I’d bake a loaf or two and move on. Instead, I gave a jar of flour and water a name and somehow let it take over my personality.
That jar became Steve.
What started as a random hobby quickly turned into late night baking sessions, flour covering every surface of my house, and more loaves than I can count. Family and friends became taste-testers, then regular customers, and before long, Steve had built quite the fan club.
Originally, this little business was called Addie’s Loaves, but over time it became clear who the real star of the show was.
Dear Steve may be a bakery, but let’s be honest, it’s mostly Steve’s world and I’m just feeding him in it.
Today, every loaf is handcrafted, naturally fermented, and baked with the same care that started this whole journey. No shortcuts, no preservatives, and no mass production just real sourdough made the slow way. Steve insists on quality control and has extremely high standards for someone who lives in a jar.
So whether you’re here because you love sourdough, need a loaf for your table, or simply want to support a small business run by a woman and her surprisingly demanding starter, we’re glad you’re here.
Welcome to Dear Steve.
Love,
Addie & Steve
